The Old Testament promised that a savior will come. God promised to King David that one of his descendants would be an eternal king. This king was called the Messiah, which means the anointed one. The Greek word for Messiah is Christ. When Jesus appeared, his followers recognized him as this promised savior, so they called him “The Christ.”

He will be a healer
He will be a Good Shepherd
He will be a light to the world
