Pride and Humility
Select Leader to decide when to move to next section. Select the person who lives the closest to where you are meeting.
Introductions, and then ask each person, “When you were a child, did you have a special skill or ability that your friends didn’t? How did your friends react?”
Personalize. Please read Matthew 23:12. Read all the following questions, and discuss any of them. Why do you think God warns against pride? Where do you draw the line between healthy pride and sinful pride? Have you ever had an embarrassing or humbling experience and recognized it as a deterrent to pride?
God’s Word. For each Bible verse, discuss what attitude to avoid, and what harboring that attitude might lead to.

Consider: Because we know we are going to be tempted to be proud, how would it help to remember what the Bible says about what our condition would be like if it were not for Jesus? Can you see a relationship between pride and such things as a critical spirit, ungratefulness, self-pity at being unappreciated, slandering? Is there a way I can build others up without making them too proud? Is there a way that I can share my accomplishments without exhibiting pride?
Summary. Based on these verses, I think God’s will for me is … (This may be different for each person)
Insight. What is there about me that keeps me from doing this? (This will provide insight into your sin nature, including deliberate sin or area of weakness.)
Christ. How He is the answer to the particular areas surfaced above. (This will include Christ forgiving you for past sins, and Christ living in you to help you cope the next time temptation arises.)
Future. Verses to consider the next time the problem comes up.
