The End

…of you and of everyone

Everyone tell when your birthday is. The one with the birthday closest to today becomes the questioner.

Getting Acquainted. Questioner says: “Everyone tell their name, where they were born, and if they have lived any other places between then and now. Person at my left can start.”

Getting into the topic. Questioner says, “What have you heard other people say about death? What do you think happens to people when they die?”

Getting into God’s Word. Questioner says “read the verses in the box below silently, and then fill in the blanks with the letter of the verse that answers that question.”

__ 1. Who does a person’s spirit go to upon death? __ 2. Why do we have to die? __ 3. Where does a Christian go at the moment of death? __ 4. When do I get my body back again?  a.Luke 23:43. And Jesus said to (the person on the cross next to him), “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” BSB b. I Cor 15:51-52.  Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. NASB c. Ecclesiastes 12:7. the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. NIV d. Romans 6:23.  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. NIV

Getting responses. Questioner says, “The person on my right, tell us which letters you wrote in the left-hand column, and let’s see if all of us agree.”                                        Over

PART TWO. THE END OF EVERYTHING.

Questioner asks someone to read this verse:
(1 Peter 3:10-13) The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance. But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct yourselves in holiness and godliness as you anticipate and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be destroyed by fire and the elements will melt in the heat.  But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. BSB

Questioner asks: “Did you see anything in this verse that you didn’t realize before? What questions do you have about this verse that the rest of us might try to answer?

Getting into God’s Word. Questioner says: “read the verses in the box below silently, and then fill in the blanks with the letter of the verse that answers that question.”

__ 1. When will judgment day happen? __ 2. What will happen on judgement day? __ 3. How do we know whether Christians will go to heaven or hell? a.1 John 5:11-12. God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. ESV b. Matt 25:31-32 When the Son of Man (Jesus) comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.  “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world…Verse 41: Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels. BSB c. When Matt 24:44 Jesus said You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” NLT

Questioner says “Did you see anything in these verses that you didn’t realize before? What questions do you have that the rest of us could try to answer?”

Questioner says “let’s read together this verse about our home after judgement day.”

(Revelation 21:1-4. ) The writer, John, is speaking: “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more…  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.” BSB

Questioner asks: “If you knew that the world would end next week, what would you do?”

Questioner says:  “now we are asked to create a way to portray some part of today’s lesson to the other small groups. We might pick a topic like “the sheep and the goats” or “waking up in heaven.” We might portray it through a skit, or a picture, or a newspaper headline and article, or some other way.

The groups present their project to one another.

Closing prayer (all together).
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to pay for our sins on the cross, so that we can look forward to being with you forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
